Hafnium Wire

Hafnium is a shiny silver-gray transition metal. Hafnium does not interact with dilute hydrochloric acid, dilute sulfuric acid, and strong alkaline solutions, but is soluble in hydrofluoric acid and aqua regia.

Features:

The chemical properties of hafnium are very similar to zirconium, which has good corrosion resistance and is not easily eroded by general acid-base aqueous solutions; it is easily soluble in hydrofluoric acid to form fluoro complexes. At high temperatures, hafnium can also be directly combined with oxygen, nitrogen, and other gases to form oxides and nitrides.

Applications:

The alloy of hafnium and tungsten or molybdenum is used as the electrode of the high voltage discharge tube. Hafnium has a large thermal neutron capture cross-section and is an ideal neutron absorber. It can be used as a control rod and protection device for atomic reactors. Hafnium can be used as a getter for many inflation systems. Hafnium getter can remove unnecessary gases such as oxygen and nitrogen present in the system. Alloy material, hafnium-niobium alloy containing 10% hafnium can be used as a lunar rocket nozzle, and a tantalum-tungsten alloy containing hafnium 2% can be used as a protective material for spacecraft due to its high creep strength
